This evening at 1857, Engine 8 was dispatched to Haverford road in Vauclain's local for a RIT run on the gas leak inside. While en route, Engine 8 was diverted to a building fire further down on Haverford. Engine 8 arrived to find nothing showing but was being advised by P.D. and a 62 officer that it was a working Kitchen fire. The crew split in two with one crew entering the building armed with tools and two cans, while the balance prepared for the 13/4 stretch if necessary. The crew was able to knock the fire down via the two cans and immediately opened up and called for the fan.The remainder of the box arrived and assisted with checking for extension and ventilation. 49-9 took over command from the 62 officer and with that the area involved was overhauled and the burnt contents removed outside. The building was ventilated quickly and the residents were back inside within the hour. The crews took up and returned to more snow runs.
